"B L A K E ' S 6" S Q U A D C E L E B R A T I N G A L I F E
Sometimes as a football club you are given the rare opportunity to make a difference off the field in the real world. Participating in Duchenne San Diego's Kick for a Cure 6 v 6 Tournament annually has always been close to coach Billy Alarcon’s heart … supporting an incredible and worthwhile cause – Children with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy – by simply participating in a game we all love.
This year, Duchenne San Diego's Executive Director Helena Jayasuriya has given Alarcon’s newest men’s soccer startup, Apache FC, the honor of playing for someone who loved life and left us all too soon.
Fourteen-year-old Blake Kuller passed away August 9, 2010 after leading an inspiring life with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. Looking forward to beginning his freshman year at Dunwoody High School in DeKalb County, Georgia, Blake was an active member of the Dunwoody Baptist Church Youth Ministry as well as a leader in the Children's Awana Ministry.
He loved playing in the band at Peachtree Middle School and was awarded the Spirit and Dedication Award for 2007-2010. He was a Life Scout at Troop 477, Kingswood UMC. And Blake was busy planning his Eagle Scout Project and looked forward to attaining the rank of Eagle. Blake loved the Florida Gators, Tim Tebow, and the Atlanta Braves. He was loved by all and the memory of his sweet and gentle spirit will never fade from the hearts of those who know and love him.
In honor of Blake’s life, Apache FC fielded one of two teams in his name. Dubbed Blake’s 6, the special squad donned jerseys with a logo designed specifically for the occasion, in Blake’s favorite color, purple. Niky's Sports kindly helped the team with these jerseys.
Apache FC thanks both Duchenne San Diego and Blake’s wonderful family -- parents Whalen and Allison, his brother Jackson and his two sisters, Lauren and Ansley -- for this opportunity.
